Haroon Javed Masih embraced martyrdom on May 1st 2015 in Tirah Valley Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He was a Christian soldier in the Pakistan Army.
Haroon was fighting Taliban in Kurram and Orakzai agencies of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
The whole nation salutes this Christian hero who sacrificed his while protecting the nation against terrorists. The Pakistani Christian Community appreciates the efforts of this youth who sacrificed his life for our motherland.
Christians have served the Pakistani Armed Forces since partition. For the first half of the century of Independence many Christians held prominent positions in government, the armed services and the civil services. There have been numerous Christians who have risen to the rank of Brigadier; and in the 1990 the first Christian promoted to the rank of Major General was Julian Peter in Okara Cantt. In 2009 brigadier Noel Israel Khokhar, was also promoted to rank of Major General. Group Captain Cecil Chaudry is also a prominent addition to Christian war heroes of Pakistan.
