Quetta blast claims lives of seven security men; over 22 wounded

others sustained injuries when a powerful bomb went off near their vehicle in Sariab Road area of Quetta on Wednesday.

The police truck carrying 35 personnel was targeted by a huge bomb at Sibi Road off Sariab Road this morning. The blast was so powerful that the truck was left badly mangled and caused critical injuries to the security men.

Following the bombing, the vehicle caught fire. The blast caused damage to the vehicles and a rickshaw parked nearby.

According to Rescue sources, the bodies and the injured were shifted to Civil Hospital, Quetta.

Police officials said terrorists wanted to blow the security agency vehicle carrying the personnel to their duty station.

Following the blast, the entire area was picketed and a search operation was kick-started.

Confirming the attack was suicidal, Superintendent of Police (Security), Javed Iqbal Garshin told media that a suicide bomber hit his explosive-laden auto-rickshaw with a police truck.

He said the police truck caught fire and the arms carried by police personnel started firing automatically.

In another incident, some unknown persons shot dead a Police Inspector on Qambrani Road in Quetta on Wednesday.
