Youth Intizar Ahmed shot dead on Saturday killed by ACLC police

KARACHI: The murder case of a youth in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) took a U-turn on Sunday after personnel of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) of the Karachi police were found to be involved in the killing.

Though the police high-ups have suspended all nine ACLC men allegedly involved in the murder, officials only arrested six of them as according to the police, the remaining three had gone into hiding to avoid arrest.

In an unfortunate incident late on Saturday evening in Karachi’s posh locality of DHA, a 21-year-old man, Intizar Ahmed, who lived on Khayaban-e-Badban, was found shot dead in mysterious circumstances on Khayaban-e-Ittehad.


Civil society demands thorough investigation into Dr Hasan Zafar Arif’s death

Condemning the death of Dr Hasan Zafar Arif and calling it a “brutal murder”, members of the civil society held a news conference at the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday, followed by a demonstration.

Headed by Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) Vice Chairperson Asad Butt, the call to protest was also joined by the Tehrik-e-Niswan’s Sheema Kermani, the Aurat Foundation’s Mahnaz Rahman, the National Trade Union Federation’s Nasir Mansoor, teachers Dr Riaz Ahmed and Dr Tauseef Ahmed and trade unionist Razi Mansoor.

The body of the intellectual, a member of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London, was found in his car in Rehri Goth on Sunday, two days after he had gone missing. Terming it an “extrajudicial killing”, the civil society demanded answers from the law enforcement agencies, especially pertaining to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre’s post-mortem examination report that declared Dr Hasan’s body did not bear any torture marks.


Anger on social media after Waziristan man killed in Karachi 'encounter'

Acquaintances and relatives of a man who was killed in an allegedly staged encounter by police in Karachi last week have disputed the police claim that the deceased was a militant affiliated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Naqeebullah, a 27-year-old hailing from South Waziristan, was allegedly among four suspects killed in an 'encounter' with a police team headed by Senior Superintendent of Police Rao Anwar in the Usman Khaskheli Goth on the outskirts of the metropolis last week.

Anwar had alleged at the time that the slain suspects were involved in several high-profile terror cases and had ties with terrorist outfits Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LJ) and the militant Islamic State (IS). However, Naqeebullah was not mentioned by name then.

Dilawar belonged to Gilgit Baltistan and was living Lahore for higher studies taking dreams of bright future. He was the only support of his parents.

Once again human failed to save humanity. I had heard that 'Lahoris' are hospitable people but it was wrong. Lahoris failed to save their guest.

Another Mishal has brutally murdered by a mob but this time in a play ground. This time everything is OK, no news about this incident gone viral, not a single headline appeared on media, I don't know why? May be it was not such a big incident. Lets ask about the intensity of the incident to his parents for whom Dilawar was the only son. No inquiry, no investigation, no statment, no debate, Isn't that the prejudice?

Cleric arrested for alleged sexual assault of 14-year-old in Karachi

KARACHI: Police have arrested a seminary teacher for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old student in the city’s Gulistan-e-Johar locality.


The minor boy informed police that the cleric, Qari Muhammad Saleem sexually assaulted him on Friday night inside the seminary, which prompted the police to conduct a raid and apprehend the accused.

A medical examination confirmed the sexual assault, after which a case was registered against the cleric, police said.

Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal has taken notice of the incident, seeking a detailed inquiry report from East Deputy Inspector General of Police, The Newsreported.



Rape and murder dominate land of Bulleh Shah

LAHORE: Kasur —the city mostly known and visited for the shrine of Baba Bulleh Shah — has been in the news for all the wrong reasons since January 2017.

In the year between the gang rape of a Christian woman and the murder of seven-year-old Zainab, there have been at least 12 cases of sexual assault in the city.

Parents are now scared for the safety and wellbeing of their sons and daughters who themselves are hesitant to step out of the house.

Four TTP terrorists killed in encounter with Karachi police

Four terrorists have been gunned down in an encounter with the police near Shah Latif Town in Karachi.

According to Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Malir Rao Anwar, police officials raided a house near Shah Latif Town after receiving a tip-off from intelligence agencies regarding their presence in the area.

School guard allegedly assaults 5-year-old girl in Karachi

KARACHI: In another shocking incident, a five-year-old student was allegedly assaulted by the guard at her school, SM Grammar School, in the Ibrahim Hyderi neighbourhood of Karachi.

Sources told The Express Tribune that the minor was assaulted in the premises of the school located near Benazir Chowk.

As news of the incident spread like wildfire on Friday, angry residents of the locality surrounded the school and protested.

According to Express News, the violent crowd locked the staff of the school in the staffroom and chanted slogans against the school administration. In a bid to deal with any untoward incident, a heavy contingent of police and Rangers was later called in.


Zainab murder: Riots in Pakistan's Kasur after child rape and killing

Two protesters have died in rioting over the latest in a series of child murders in the Pakistani city of Kasur.

The body of six-year-old Zainab was found in a rubbish dump on Tuesday, several days after she went missing. She had been raped and strangled.

Angry demonstrators say the authorities are doing little to stem the spate of abductions, sexual assaults and killings.

Police in Kasur say there have been 12 similar murders in the past two years.

They say five of them are linked to one suspect who is being hunted by hundreds of officers and DNA samples have been taken from 90 possible suspects.



Another girl found dead after sexual assault in Punjab

January 11

SARGODHA: A day after body of Zainab was found in Kasur, another girl was found dead in Punjab’s Sargodha district. She was allegedly raped before murder, police said.

According to our correspondent, the body was recovered from Tasawarabad area of Sargodha’s tehsil Bhalwal.

The victim was identified as 15-year-old girl Sajida. Her father told police that she had gone missing this morning, adding that the girl had been sexually assaulted and killed.
